When a habit turns into an addiction it becomes difficult to stop without experiencing adverse effects. Even though caffeine, video games, checking away messages, and managing Facebook profiles are not as serious as drug and alcohol addictions, people can still become dependent on them. Most times, addictions not only affect the person using, but the people around them. To the left are some symptoms that indicate that a person is an addict.

These symptoms are warning signs for people that are dependent on drugs and alcohol and the more simple things in life. Even though these habits are not as destructive as drugs and alcohol, they should not be taken lightly. Caffeine is not an addiction that can be fatal, but there are numerous health risks, physically and emotionally. The same can be said for gaming. Even though it is very rare that someone would die from gaming, it does affect social life, professional life and even personal health.

There are numerous ways to treat addictions. It really depends on the severity of the problem. If you have a drug or alcohol dependence you should contact the counseling center immediately.  For habits less serious, like caffeine, gaming and the others, there are many ways to quit or at least cut back. A change in environment and support from the people around you is a very good place to start. Whatever the addiction is, simply remove it from your environment will make quitting much easier. When quitting substances such as caffeine, be cautious because withdrawal can occur.
